This is a fossil walrus tusk, excavated on St. Lawrence Island, Bering Sea, Alaska, by the Yupik people. They have been on St. Lawrence for well over 25 centuries, and this tusk may have been buried for as many as 8- 10 centuries. The people of the Island own the land, so this ivory is non-archeological.
As the title suggests, this sculpture represents the color and vibrancy of youth, to the faded wisdom and understanding of old age. It is set on a base of jet from Siberia, thuya wood from Morocco, and African black wood from Mozambique, and a Yukon gold nugget
